Indiana Initiatives

The James Ackerman Center for Democratic Citizenship seeks to provide programs and resources to educators seeking to implement citizenship programs and encourage student leadership opportunities in their schools and communities.

The Riverbend Community Math Center serves the South Bend/Mishawaka area in north-central Indiana.  They promote interest and confidence in mathematics among people of all ages. They believe that with technology-related fields becoming increasingly important to our economy, people need more opportunities to learn that math can be fascinating and that it can lead to rewarding careers.

The Indiana Department of Education links to a 1999 resort entitled, “Issue-Centered Civic Education in Middle Schools.”


The Center for Evaluation and Education Policy has conducted several reports about the effects of full-day versus half-day kindergarten in Indiana.


The Center for Innovation in Assessment provides curriculum and assessment materials for grades K-12 that offers extensive research on the most effective teaching and assessment strategies based on individual needs.
