Pryce Congratulates Hilliard Darby’s Josie Sanders for Winning
the 2008 Congressional Art Competition

Columbus, Ohio – Today, Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus) announced the winners of the 2008 Congressional Art Competition for high school students in her district. The competitive art show is part of a national Congressional art program called, “An Artistic Discovery.”

Every year, the winning piece of art from each participating Congressional district is displayed as part of the national exhibition in the Cannon Tunnel, a pedestrian walkway leading to the U.S. Capitol.

"There are so many gifted, young artists in Central Ohio and the Artistic Discovery program provides a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their talents,” Pryce said. “I congratulate this year’s top three winners for their excellent entries, and thank all who took the time to participate.”

Pryce added, “I encourage any family visiting the U.S. Capitol Building over the next year to view the exhibition, and soak in the vast array of entries from districts all across our nation.”

This year’s first place winner was Hilliard Darby senior Josie Sanders for her acrylic painting, “Dog Eyes.” In addition to Josie’s piece remaining on display in Washington, she and her family are invited to attend a gala reception in the nation’s capital on June 25 th to kick off the 2008 "An Artistic Discovery" national exhibition. Southwest Airlines graciously donated ticket vouchers for the family’s travel to Washington.

Second place went to Franklin Heights High School senior Amber Hill for untitled black and white photograph entry. Jacqueline Baumann, a senior at Hilliard Darby, took third place with her acrylic painting, “Montana de Luz.”

Now in its 27 th year, "An Artistic Discovery" is the annual nationwide Congressional High School Art Competition initiated by Members of the United States House of Representatives. Pryce has participated in the program since her first term in 1993.
