RAMSTAD SPONSORS AMERICA'S BETTER CLASSROOMS (ABC) ACT TO REBUILD AMERICA'S SCHOOLS

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Jim Ramstad (MN-03) today joined Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel (NY-15) in introducing legislation to create school construction bonds for public schools. This bipartisan legislation, which already has 156 cosponsors, would provide approximately $25 billion in bonds for the construction and renovation of local schools to address the growing need for school modernization.

“This important legislation will help rebuild America’s schools so our children can learn in safe and healthy classrooms,” said Ramstad.

Nearly one-third of public schools need extensive repair or renovation, and 40% of schools report poor environmental conditions, such as lack of temperature control, bad indoor air quality, insufficient daylight and overcrowded classrooms.

“In addition, the bill allows award recipients to apply for retention grants to keep cops on the beat,” said Ramstad.

“This critical legislation will help school districts fund the repairs and improvements they so desperately need. My home state of Minnesota is expected to receive nearly $380 million in school modernization bonds under this bill,” said Ramstad.

The ABC Act would provide federal support for school construction by offering a tax credit for the interest paid on bonds issued by state and local governments to put children in modern learning facilities.
