Committee on Energy and Commerce

The Committee on Energy and Commerce is the oldest standing committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, and one of its most important committees. Throughout its history, the Committee on Energy and Commerce has written landmark legislation greatly benefiting the American people: laws to improve the quality of the air we breathe, to clean up toxic waste sites, to provide health care to senior citizens and children, to protect the safety of our food and drugs, to promote a vibrant telecommunications industry, to prevent fraud in our financial markets, and much more.

Subcommittee on Government Management, Organization, and Procurement (Chairman)

The mission of this subcommittee is to secure effective and efficient government that works for all Americans. By taking a hard look at what works, what doesn't, and what new approaches are promising, we can find and eliminate waste, streamline management, and monitor customer service and accountability.

Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection

Jurisdiction: Interstate and foreign commerce, including all trade matters within the jurisdiction of the full committee; Regulation of commercial practices (the FTC), including sports-related matters; Consumer affairs and consumer protection, including privacy matters generally; consumer product safety (the CPSC); product liability; and motor vehicle safety; Regulation of travel, tourism, and time; and, Homeland security-related aspects of the foregoing, including cybersecurity.

Subcommittee on Health

Jurisdiction: Public health and quarantine; hospital construction; mental health and research; biomedical programs and health protection in general, including Medicaid and national health insurance; Food and drugs; Drug abuse; and, Homeland security-related aspects of the foregoing.

Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet

Jurisdiction: Interstate and foreign telecommunications including, but not limited to all telecommunication and information transmission by broadcast, radio, wire, microwave, satellite, or other mode; and, Homeland security-related aspects of the foregoing, including cybersecurity.

Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction to investigate any federal program and any matter with federal policy implications.
