Susan Davis Named "Humane Advocate" for Her Work to Protect Animals

San Diego's Congresswoman once again honored for her perfect voting record

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-CA) was recognized by the Humane Society of the United States for her leadership on animal welfare issues and for receiving a perfect score on the 2007 Humane Scorecard.  Davis received the Humane Society's "Humane Advocate Award" for 2007.

"I am honored to be recognized once again by the Humane Society," said Rep. Davis.  "Humane Society’s commitment and dedication to animals is truly inspiring.  Animals deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.  They are such a critical part of the environment and to the lives of millions of people to whom they provide companionship.  I look forward to continuing our efforts on behalf of animals."

For the 110th Congress, the Humane Society rated members on a series of votes, letters signed, bills co-sponsored, and their leadership on animal legislation.

Davis voted to protect horses from slaughter for human consumption and polar bears from trophy hunting.  She co-sponsored legislation to crack down on animal fighting, require fur labeling, and protect wild horses.  Davis also advocated for funds to enforce the Animal Welfare Act, Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, and federal animal fighting laws.

According to its Web site, the Humane Society of the United States is the nation’s largest animal protection organization with nearly ten million members and constituents.
