Susan Davis Actions on Global Warming

Reducing Global Warming Emissions – Susan is an original cosponsor of the Safe Climate Act which seeks to reduce global warming emissions through a system of caps and trades, requirements for cleaner cars, and more electricity through renewable energy and efficiency.  The bill sets a target of an 80% reduction in global warming emissions by 2050. (H.R. 1590 cosponsored March 20, 2007)

$14 Billion for Renewable Energy – Susan strongly supported the CLEAN Energy Act that would generate $14 billion for the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency.  The revenue would be generated by eliminating tax subsidies to the oil industry.  Revenue would also come from increasing royalty payments paid by the oil industry.  Susan is also an original cosponsor of H.R. 6. (H.R. 6, RC# 40 passed 264-163, January 12, 2007)

Energy from Wind – To encourage the production of renewable energy from wind, Susan is a cosponsor of H.R. 197 which extends the tax credit for wind-produced energy to 2014.  (H.R. 197 cosponsored March 5, 2007)

“Green” Buildings – Susan is cosponsor of H.R 539 to increase and extend the tax credit encouraging new and existing commercial buildings to reduce energy use and power costs by 50%. (H.R. 539 cosponsored February 9, 2007)

Increasing Fuel Economy for Automobiles – Susan is a cosponsor of legislation to increase fuel economy standards for automobiles to 35 miles per gallon by 2018 from the current 27.5 mpg.  In the House of Representatives, Susan has consistently voted to increase fuel economy standards for automobiles. (H.R. 1506 cosponsored March 21, 2007)

Fuel Economy Standards for Automobiles – In a letter to EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson, Susan joined colleagues in urging the Administrator to allow California to go forward in setting strong fuel economy and emissions standards to reduced oil consumption and global warming pollution from new automobiles.  (September 26, 2006)

House Global Warming Committee – Susan supported the creation of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.  Working with the relevant committees, the Committee will help draft legislation to encourage energy independence and find ways to combat global warming.
