Religious Liberty

When our Founding Fathers established the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in America’s founding, they recognized the preeminent role that religious freedom holds in securing human liberty. A characteristic of tyrannical regimes throughout history has been the suppression of religious beliefs and practices; and contrarily, a foundational benchmark in free societies is the ability for free citizens to believe and worship as they please. But despite these foundational principles, there is a growing incursion by local governments and liberal courts upon our right to worship freely. Moreover, millions of people throughout the world live under regimes that deny them this fundamental human right. I believe the issue of religious liberty is a fundamental principle woven into the very fabric of our Republic, and I will continue to support policies that protect the right of individuals in America and throughout the world to exercise that freedom.
