August 29, 2008 – U.S. Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) gave the following statement after Senator John McCain formally announced that he had chosen Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate:
“I am elated with Senator McCain’s selection of Governor Sarah Palin for Vice President.” Franks stated. “Governor Palin brings a vibrant spirit, uncompromising principles, a deeply rooted value of family and children, and a record of fearless determination in reforming the broken systems of government that will help to bring exactly the kind of change to Washington that the American people need and have every right to expect.
“As soaring gas prices have continued to hurt hard-working American families, Governor Palin has been a leader in the push for American energy independence and brings both experience and knowledge of the energy issue to the table at a critical time. She has zealously fought to lower taxes, eliminate corruption, cut government spending, and has repeatedly demonstrated herself as a champion for the cause of life. As a mother of five including a son leaving for Iraq in the fall, she understands the challenges and threats we face as a nation, as well as the need to support our noble men and women in arms who make such great sacrifices for America’s national security and for the freedom of every American citizen and generations to come.
“In what I believe to be the most important election of my lifetime, I look forward to working in whatever ways I can to ensure that Senator McCain and Governor Palin are elected this fall.”
