Visiting Our Nation's Capitol?

Here are some things you might want to check out:

Request a tour

The United States Capitol  Special Congressional tours given by the Congressman's staff can be arranged by calling the Congressman's office . The requests are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strongly recommend early requests (i.e. 30 days in advance). The tour lasts approximately 60 minutes. We give tours twice a day at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

The White House The White House has now begun accepting tour requests for all groups of 10 or more constituents. Requests are processed on a first come first serve basis and must be booked as early as 6 months prior to the requested date and as late as 45 days prior to the requested date. To accommodate groups of less than 10 people, my office will do its best to coordinate and combine groups that fall in this latter category.

Arlington National Cemetery Open daily, October through March from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and April through September from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tour sites include the Arlington National Cemetery Visitors Center, Kennedy Grave sites, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Changing of the Guard, Arlington House (Lee's Home), and the Robert E. Lee Memorial. Metro: Arlington Cemetery.

Botanical Gardens - 202-225-8333, Maryland and First Avenue, SW.
Open daily, 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. June through August, open until 9:00 p.m. Metro: Federal Center, SW.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing - (202) 622-2000, 14th and C St, SW. See how U.S. currency, at a rate of $30 million daily, postage and revenue stamps are printed. Real and counterfeit paper money and coins are on display. Public tours are conducted Monday through Friday (Federal Holidays excluded) from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and last approximately 35 minutes. Federal Bureau of Investigation - (202) 324-3447, E Street between 9th and 10th Streets, NW. There are currently no public tours being scheduled.

Folger Shakespeare Library - (202) 544-7077 (Tours) 201 East Capitol Street, SE (Behind the Library of Congress). This library has one of the world's finest collections of rare English Renaissance books and a large collection of Shakespeare's works. Plus, there are many programs and concerts at the Folger theatre. The building and gift shop is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tours are available Monday through Friday at 11:00 a.m., Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. Call for tour information and event times. Ford's Theatre and Lincoln Museum - (202) 426-6924, 10th Street between E and F Streets, NW. Building open every day of the year except Christmas from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Open for touring unless a performance is scheduled. Metro: Metro Center

Holocaust Memorial Museum - 202-488-0400, 14th and C Streets, SW. The museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week. Admission is free, but tickets are required. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., a limited number of free tickets are available at the museum box office, located at the 14th Street entrance. Tickets may also be reserved in advance through Ticketmaster, at (800) 551-7328, however there is a surcharge for this service. Metro: Smithsonian.

John F. Kennedy Center For Performing Arts - (202) 416-4600, 2700 F Street, NW. Public tours are Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and last one hour. Visitors should enter through the Hall of States entrance. Congressional tours can be arranged through the Congressman's Office for Monday through Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. The requests are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strongly recommend early requests (i.e. 30 days in advance). For Public information and tickets: (800) 444-1324 Metro: Foggy Bottom.

Library of Congress James Madison Bldg., Thomas Jefferson Bldg., and John Adams Bldg. - 1st Street and Independence Avenue, SE. The public tour is in the James Madison Building; Monday through Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. and last approximately 30-45 minutes. Visitors may enter at 101 Independence Avenue, SE. Tickets are required and available at the information desk of the Thomas Jefferson Building. Enter through the West front door (facing the Capitol). The tour includes the Great Hall and the Main Reading Room viewed from the Visitors Gallery. Metro: Capitol South.

Mount Vernon - (703) 780-2000. The home of George Washington is open year round from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Admission: Adults $8.00; Seniors (age 62+) $7.50; children (age 6-11) $4.00.

National Archives - (202) 501-5205, 8th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW. On display are the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and a copy of the Magna Carta. The Archives are open daily from Labor Day to March 31 from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and April 1 to Labor Day from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Metro: Archives-Navy Memorial.

National Cathedral - (202) 537-6207, Massachusetts and Wisconsin Avenues. The Cathedral is one of the largest church buildings in the world. The 14th century Gothic style architecture contains President Woodrow Wilson's tomb. There are guided tours available Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:25 p.m., and Sunday from 12:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m., except during services and special events. Three shops (open 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.) and the gardens (open until dusk) are also accessible. Call the Cathedral for tour reservations.

Pentagon - (703) 695-3324 There are currently no public tours available due to high security measures.

The Smithsonian Institute Most museums open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. For specific information, call (202) 357-4574. Metro: Smithsonian (unless noted otherwise).

State Department - (202) 647-3241, 2201 C Street, NW. Tours of the Diplomatic Reception Room are available at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 2:45 p.m. on weekdays. Tours and reservations are obtained by contacting the Congressman's office. The requests are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strongly recommend early requests (i.e. 30 days in advance). It is a fine arts tour which lasts about an hour and is not recommended for children under the age of twelve. For groups of five or more, dates of birth and Social Security numbers must be provided for all tour participants. No open public tours available. Metro: Foggy Bottom-GWU

Supreme Court - 1st Street and Maryland Avenue, NE. The U.S. Supreme Court Building is open Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Public lectures are conducted in the Courtroom every 30 minutes, Monday through Friday, from 9:30 until 3:30 p.m., except when the Court is in Session. Tour reservations are obtained by contacting the Congressman's office. The requests are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strongly recommend early requests (i.e. 30 days in advance). Metro: Capitol South or Union Station
