Native Hawaiian Issues

"The term Native Hawaiians refers to the indigenous, native people of the Hawaiian archipelago, which was a sovereign kingdom until 1893, and a U.S. territory until it became a state in 1959. Our goal in Congress is to establish a process which can lead to the formation and recognition of a Native Hawaiian governmental entity, much like the governments of our Native American tribes and Alaska Natives, to interact with the state and federal governments."
