Service Academy Information and Nominations
As
a member of the United States House of Representatives, Congresswoman
Bordallo has the privilege of nominating young men and women to
the U.S. Service academies. The academies offer students a fully
paid college education leading to a career in the U.S. military.
Nominations are offered for the following academies:

U.S. Air Force Academy - Colorado Springs, Colorado
-
U.S. Coast Guard Academy - New London, Connecticut*
-
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy - Kings Point, New York
-
U.S. Military Academy - West Point, New York
-
U.S. Naval Academy - Annapolis, Maryland
*There
are no congressional nominations for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
The academy offers appointments on the basis of an annual nationwide
competition.
Congressional
nominations are made on a competitive basis, stressing scholastic,
athletic and leadership abilities. The following includes basic
eligibility requirements for nominations:
- Must
be 17 - 22 years of age
- Unmarried
with no dependent children
- United
States Citizen
Applying for a Nomination
To
initiate the nomination process, students must first open a pre-candidate
file with the academy they wish to attend. Once the file is open,
please print out, complete and mail Academy
Nomination Form and Residency
Form by November 30, 2008. The following information is required for a congressional nomination:

A
letter requesting consideration for a nomination to the military
academy of your choice
-
The
completed Application form
-
Your
Certification of Residency Form
-
An
essay from you telling us why you would like to attend the academy
of your choice
-
Your
High School and/or college transcripts
-
Your
ACT and SAT exam scores (a photocopy from your school is permitted)
-
Your
photograph
-
At
least three letters of recommendations from friends, clergy,
or other adults who know you well
-
Any
additional information you feel would be helpful
