Guam and CNMI Honor Fallen Heroes in Washington, D.C.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - September 22, 2008 – Washington, D.C.

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo joined the families of fallen heroes from Guam and the CNMI in honoring their service to our country at the Time of Remembrance ceremony held at the foot of the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C.  Mrs. Brianne Naputi of Guam, widow of the late U.S. Army SPC Richard DeGracia Naputi, Jr., Mrs. Theresa Castro also of Guam, widow of the late U.S. Army SGT Jesse Castro, as well as SGT Castro’s mother and sister joined the family of the late U.S. Army PFC Jose Charfauros, Jr. of Rota in honoring the service of America’s men and women who gave their lives during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“We honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” Congresswoman Bordallo said today. “The Time of Remembrance ceremony brought together thousands of families from across the country. The gathering this past weekend allowed families and friends to remember and celebrate the life of their fallen servicemen with others who have experienced the same tragic loss. We will always remember and honor those who gave their lives in defense of freedom.”

General George W. Casey, Jr., Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, joined the nearly 3,000 families. The Time of Remembrance ceremony is organized by the White House Commission on Remembrance and was first established by Congress in 2000.
