4th District
Missouri's Fourth Congressional District is comprised of all or portions of 25 counties stretching from Blue Springs in eastern Jackson County to Lamar, the birthplace of President Harry S. Truman. The district includes Missouri's state capital, Jefferson City, and much of the Ozark region of the state. The northernmost part of the Fourth District includes Ray County, located north of the Missouri River. The southernmost point of the district is Webster County, only 30 miles from the Arkansas border.
 In addition to being valuable national defense facilities, the two military installations located in the Fourth District, Fort Leonard Wood and Whiteman Air Force Base, provide jobs, training, and education for many district residents. The Missouri National Guard also plays an important role in our national defense, with the state headquarters in Jefferson City and several armories in communities throughout the Fourth District.
Much of the area is devoted to farming, small business, and tourism. Missouri's climate and moderate rainfall allow row crops such as corn, soybeans, milo, and wheat to prosper with abundant yields. Livestock production - including beef, dairy cattle, and hogs - is also a vital part of the Fourth District's agricultural economy. Tourist opportunities abound in the district's historic cities and towns, state parks, and recreational lakes, including the Lake of the Ozarks, Pomme de Terre Lake, Stockton Lake, and Truman Lake.
Education and industry are important elements of the Fourth District landscape. Several educational institutions offer diverse opportunities for higher learning. University of Central Missouri, Lincoln University, Missouri Valley College, and Cottey College provide undergraduate college degrees. State Fair Community College, home of the acclaimed Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, offers associate degrees and advanced training in a variety of areas. In addition, Wentworth Military Academy offers high school and associate-level degree programs.
