Academy Nominations

Members of Congress may nominate a limited number of candidates to the United States Military, Naval, Air Force, and Merchant Marine academies each year. Applicants applying for admission to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy no longer require a nomination from a U.S. Representative and should apply directly to the academy.

Young people in Missouri's Fourth Congressional District interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy should contact Congressman Skelton's Sedalia office. Congressman Skelton's office is now accepting applications from students interested in entering an academy in June 2009. Congressman Skelton has an Academy Selection Committee that assists in making recommendations of young people qualified for a nomination. The academies make the ultimate appointment decisions.

Who is Eligible?
Academies select only the most qualified high school students in the country. The law requires that candidates for service academies be at least 17 years old and not yet 23 years of age when they enter into the academy. Candidates must also be U.S. citizens, unmarried, and cannot have any dependents.

Although it is not mandatory, it is best to apply for nomination to a U.S. Service Academy during January of a student's junior year.

Application Process
Those wanting to apply for a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, or the Merchant Marine Academy should write a letter of interest to Congressman Skelton's Sedalia office at the following address:
