McHenry Delivers Speech Against Democrat Plan to Raise Taxes

McHenry Delivers Speech Against Democrat Plan to Raise Taxes

Washington, May 17, 2005 - Mr. Speaker, I ask unanimous consent to address the House for one minute and to revise and extend my remarks…

Thank you.

The day has finally come, Mr. Speaker: The Democrats, after 5 months, have proposed a way to fix Social Security.

And to do it, they want to raise your taxes!

The new Democrat plan would increase taxes to fix social security.

The proposal would hike taxes by 6 percent on middle class families and small business owners. What more can you expect from the Tax and Spend Party?

Instead of transforming the program and modernizing retirement security, the democrats want to raise taxes.

But there is another, better solution.

Personal savings accounts. By allowing younger workers to put part of their Social Security taxes into personal accounts, we lessen the liability of the program later on.

When folks have personal retirement accounts, there is no “social security” surplus for the government to raid.

We won’t have to worry about the democrats fixing things by raising taxes, like they always do.

Personal retirement accounts, Mr. Speaker. A new solution to update an old system.
