Ehlers Statement on Rep. John Dingell

Rep. Dingell removed as chairman of influential House committee

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vernon J. Ehlers made the following statement today regarding the Democratic Caucus vote to remove Congressman John Dingell (D-MI) from his position as Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Congress in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Congressman Dingell has been a dear friend and a valuable, trusted colleague of mine over the years, and I am saddened that his Democratic colleagues voted today to remove him from his position as Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce. While it is a great loss for him personally, it is a much greater loss for the state of Michigan that he no longer holds the powerful position on the committee.”

House Democrats elected Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) to lead the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, defeating Rep. Dingell by a vote of 137-122.
