Ehlers to Host Academy Night for Area Students

GRAND RAPIDS, MIOn Monday, November 24, Congressman Vernon J. Ehlers will host Academy Night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Gerald R. Ford Museum, located at 303 Pearl Street NW in Grand Rapids. Students from the Third Congressional District, which includes Barry, Ionia, and most of Kent Counties, are invited to learn more about U.S. Service Academies.

Congressman Ehlers will be on hand with representatives from U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Application to these academies is a competitive process, and requires a nomination from a U.S. Representative or Senator. During Academy Night, students may learn how to get a nomination, what is involved in applying to attend U.S. Service Academies, and what each academy has to offer prospective students.

This free event is open to the public, and students and their families interested in learning about U.S. Service Academies are welcome to attend anytime during the evening. The best time for students to begin the nomination and application process is during the spring of their junior year of high school.
