Service Academy Nominations

For individuals interested in attending four of the five United States Service Academies, a congressional nomination is an absolute necessity (no such nomination is necessary to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy).

In order to fully evaluate those seeking nomination, Congressman Doyle has established a committee of community leaders from throughout the 14th Congressional District. This committee evaluates each potential candidate and recommends candidates for a congressional nomination. The 14th District Service Academy Committee is a non-partisan group whose only objective is to recommend the most qualified candidates for nomination to the service academies. The committee is made up of former academy graduates and active military persons.

The committee members interview each applicant in December of their senior year of high school. The committee then prepares final recommendations for Congressman Doyle. Applicants selected for congressional nomination then go on to participate in the academies' own competitive application processes. For a better idea on how the process works, you may want to take a look at the committee's Time Line for Applicants.

To begin your nomination process, please complete the Service Academy Application Form. The form and all required materials must be returned by October 31 of the applicant's senior year to the following address:

Office of Congressman Mike Doyle
Attn: Service Academy Application
11 Duff Road
Penn Hills, PA 15235

Please keep in mind that the 14th district nomination process and the service academies' application procedures are not the same thing. You need to contact the academy directly, if you have not already done so. You must have your pre-candidate interview sheet sent to the Academy of your choice before the 14th District Service Academy Committee interview.

If you have any questions about the congressional nomination process, please feel free to contact any one of the congressman's district offices.
