Homeland Security |
Protecting our nation begins with smart policies that address
threats before they materialize – whether it’s high-tech inspections of the
cargo coming into our ports or stopping the spread of weapons of mass
destruction so they don’t get into the wrong hands in the first place.
And, should the unthinkable happen again, we have to ensure our first
responders are prepared. Part of this means taking advantage of the tools
developed at Livermore and Sandia National Laboratories. I have worked to
cut through the bureaucracy and streamline our homeland security measures,
including writing the section of the Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act
of 2007 which created a lead official in the White House responsible for
coordinating the fight against weapons of mass destruction. I am also
proud to have worked hard to increase funding for homeland security grants that
protect our communities.
