Rep. Ellen Tauscher Released the Following S tatement Today In Response to Governor S chwarzenegger’s Release of His Revised S tate Budget

Senior Northern Californian on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee calls Governor’s cuts to public transit short-sighted.

Washington, DC - “Today, the Governor reaffirmed that he has a short-sighted vision for transit in California .  The Governor’s revised budget will severely limit the effectiveness of our state’s public transit systems and does not live up to the promise of Proposition 1B, which voters passed overwhelmingly.

“If we are serious about the consequences of global warming and delivering on the promise of clean air and clean water for our children, then we must support transit.  It’s time for the Governor to stop just playing the role of the Green Avenger and start backing up his words with action.

“As the recent collapse of the MacArthur Maze taught us, transit services play an integral role in the mobility and economy of our state.  I hope that the S tate Legislature will reject these cuts and instead make meaningful investments in the expansion of the state’s transit systems.”

Rep. Ellen O. Tauscher

Last week, Congresswoman Tauscher led twenty-four of her California Colleagues in sending a letter to the Governor requesting that he reconsider the cuts to transit contained in his January budget.
