The Township of South Hackensack is one of the 70 towns that comprise Bergen County and is home to approximately 2,300 residents. South Hackensack borders the towns of Hasbrouck Heights, Teterboro, Little Ferry, Wood Ridge, and Hackensack, while only occupying an area of less than one square mile and is the only one of New Jersey's 566 municipalities to be split into three non-contiguous sections.
As of the 2000 census, there were 811 households with 593 families residing in the township and over 36% of town residents were of Italian ancestry, the 11th-highest percentage of any municipality in the United States, and fourth-highest in New Jersey.
