saddle_brrok.pngSaddle Brook, one of 70 towns that comprise Bergen County, is home to approximately 13,000 residents and lies just 10 miles west of New York City. Saddle Brook adopted its current name on November 8, 1955, replacing Saddle River Township. Saddle River Township was created on March 20, 1716, and consisted of all of the territory in Bergen County west of the Saddle River. This makes it one of the oldest municipalities in Bergen County.

The area was first settled by the Dutch as part of New Amsterdam. Like many parts of New Jersey, Saddle Brook felt the marching feet of our Revolutionary heroes on its soil. What is today Outwater Lane (then called Tours Lane) was used by General Washington's army to march to the Passaic River, which the troops had to ford. A stone monument stands there today to attest to the fact that our soldiers crossed the river at that point. It is known as Post's Ford.

Currently, the town does not have a working Web site. However, if you would like to learn more about Saddle Brook, please call the Town Hall at 201-587-2900.
