Job Summary

The candidate provides editorial assistance in the production of an accurate, complete version of House floor proceedings for the daily Congressional Record. Candidate is responsible for proofreading, formatting, and transcribing Official Reporters’ stenotype notes through the use of computer-aided transcription software. Assures compliance with parliamentary formats and precedents, adding titles and headings, while assuring the highest degree of accuracy in spelling, grammar and syntax.

Requirements:

Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant and professional manner. Strong organizational, written, and oral communications skills is required. Works well under pressure, handles stress appropriately and performs major duties above. A Bachelors degree is preferred, as well as the ability to transcribe a minimum of 125 pages per day using computer-aided transcription software. A national security clearance will be required. Must be competent in the operation on IBM-PC compatible computer systems, have a working knowledge of the congressional legislative process, have an analytical mind, and be detail oriented.
