Congressman Rothman: IRS owes 9,000 New Jerseyans money
(Washington, DC)
– Congressman Steve Rothman (D-Fair Lawn) urges his constituents who filed their
2007 tax returns but have not yet received their refund or economic stimulus
checks to update their address with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). More than 9,000 New Jerseyans’ checks were
returned by the U.S. Postal Service this year due to mailing address errors.
“These checks, many of which were made available through the
Economic Stimulus Package, passed by Congress back in January, have
already been received by most New Jerseyans,” said Congressman Rothman. “However, over 279,000 Americans – 9,000 of
them living in the Garden
State – are rightly owed
either stimulus or refund checks, but have not received their payment because
of an incorrect address.”
Residents who did not receive their anticipated refund can
use the Where’s My Refund tool at www.irs.gov or call 1-800-829-1040 to check the
status of their missing refund, initiate refund tracers and update their
address.
Those who did not receive their anticipated economic
stimulus payment can use Where’s My
Stimulus Payment at www.irs.gov or call
1-866-234-2942 to check on the status of the missing stimulus payment and
update their addresses if necessary.
Addresses must be updated by November
28, 2008, to ensure that the IRS can reissue the check.
