Hot Topic - Wilmington Area Digital Television Transition
The nation’s television stations are scheduled to switch from analog to digital over-the-air broadcast transmissions on February 17, 2009. North Carolina will be playing an important role in the transition. Wilmington area stations volunteered to be the test market and made the early switch to digital on September 8, 2008.
My office has been offering assistance to ease the transition for North Carolinians, and constituents have contacted me with problems related to the expiration of coupons intended to help consumers purchase converters. On June 16, 2008, I joined several of my colleagues in writing to Commerce Department officials urging the Department to allow consumers with expired coupons to reapply so that their coupons may be reissued.
For more information, including how to obtain coupons for converter boxes, please visit www.dtv.gov or call the Federal Communications Commission hotline at 1-888-225-5322.
