Public Security Issues

Public Safety

The safety of our families and our community is a paramount concern for Congressman Baca. Whether it is supporting a ban of triple trailer trucks on our nation's highways, protecting children from exploitation or abduction, or supporting collective bargaining agreements for Public Safety Officers, Congressman Baca is always fighting to make the Inland Empire safer.

Police officers and firefighters are an integral component to public safety. They are the first line of defense for Homeland Security and an imperative safeguard against everyday crime. Supporting our Public Safety officers is an essential role for the federal government. Congressman Baca has introduced and supported legislation numerous times on behalf of our public safety officers.

Supporting our Public Safety Officers

As a loyal supporter of public safety officers, Congressman Baca introduced H.R. 1960, Public Safety Officer Protection Act of 2003. This bill helps public safety officers who develop cancer due to exposure to toxins as a result of their job. It allows families of public safety officers, who develop cancer, to collect monetary reimbursement for their loved ones' sacrifices. Congressman Baca is working to help those who work hard to keep America safe.

Protecting our First Responders

The Inland Empire has been subject to many wildfires throughout the past years, yet firefighters were never assured of any long-term protection as they fought to put the flames out. The Medical Monitoring Act of 2003, H.R. 3431, was introduced by Congressman Baca to monitor the long-term medical health of firefighters who have fought fires in any area for which the President has declared a major disaster. Considering the immense role that firefighters play in protecting the residents of this great nation, the Congressman feels that it is the government's role to protect these brave and courageous men and women.
