Economic Issues

Congressman Baca supports smart fiscal policy that will help bring the prosperity experienced a decade ago back to America’s hard working families.  By supporting policy that helps keep unemployment, interest rates, and the nation’s deficit low and investment and the value of the dollar high, American families will experience that prosperity again.  Congressman Baca is firmly committed to the idea that American families have kept this economy afloat by taking advantage of low interest rates to refinance existing mortgages or purchase new homes and cars.  Irresponsible fiscal policy that reverses the benefits of low interest rates will ultimately have a devastating effect on American families and inevitably the nation as a whole.   The Congressman believes that we must not be shortsighted in our efforts to correct the economy. The elimination of certain taxes such as the corporate dividend tax alone will not stimulate a dismal economy nor will any large tax cut to the wealthiest Americans. In order to stimulate the American economy the Congressman believes that money must be put back into the hands of the working families and interest rates must be kept low. Education and technology investment needs to remain a priority so that we can see the benefits of a trained and skilled workforce and innovative technology booms like those of the 1990’s.

Small Business
Small firms have thrived in the forty-third district since the 1980’s.  Today, more than ever before, small firms are owned and run by minorities and women.  Minority-owned business contributed 4.5 million jobs and $591 billion in revenue to the United States in 1997.  1.2 million businesses are owned by Hispanics.  Having owned a small business, Congressman Baca knows the trials of staying profitable.  That is why he has always worked to ensure that there is help for small-business owners and that more small-businesses are minority-owned.
