December 1 is World AIDS
Day. As a strong supporter of HIV/AIDS awareness, I wanted to share with
you some information about what I am doing to alleviate this health problem
that affects so many lives. I am particularly alarmed by the
disproportionate effects this disease has globally on developing nations and on
minority populations within our own country.
Locally, Connecticut faced a loss
of $3 million in Ryan White CARE Act funding for 2007 because of the Health
Resources and Services Association incorrectly interpreted provisions included
in the 2006 Ryan White reauthorization legislation. I've worked with the
Connecticut House delegation to prevent these drastic cuts from
occurring.
