Rahall Announces $1.676M Funding Package for Gilbert Water Project

U.S. Rep. Nick J. Rahall (D-WV) announced today that a $1,676,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development funding package has been awarded to the Town of Gilbert to upgrade existing water systems.

“Here in southern West Virginia, we know that maintaining water infrastructure requires continuous investment and dedication,” said Rahall. “I am pleased to announce further success in our ongoing efforts to improve the Town of Gilbert’s water system.”

The funding package, which includes a $476,000 grant and a $1,200,000 loan, will be used to install approximately 60,600 feet of waterline in and around the Rt. 52, Horsepen Mountain, and Rt. 13 areas of Mingo County and will allow for construction of a new 100,000 gallon water storage tank. In addition to the $1,676,000 Rural Development funding package announced today, the USDA awarded a $472,000 loan and a $328,000 grant to the Town of Gilbert in Fiscal Year 2007 for the Gilbert Water Project. The waterline extension is expected to benefit 229 additional customers in Mingo County.

“Today’s announcement is another example of the much needed and much appreciated assistance the USDA Rural Development Program provides to southern West Virginia,” said Rahall. “Infrastructure improvements such as these ensure added health benefits, create jobs and encourage overall economic growth and development in our rural communities.”
