Rahall Announces $127K in HUD Grants to Southern West Virginia Housing Authorities

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV) announced today that housing authorities in Greenbrier County, Mingo County, and Cabell County have been awarded $127,245 in funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)'s Housing Choice Voucher-Family Self Sufficiency Program.

"These funds will allow housing authorities in southern West Virginia to lend a helping hand to families in need," said Rahall. "HUD programs such as these go along way to help hard-working West Virginians find employment and achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency."

The following housing authorities in West Virginia's Third District have been approved for funding:

* Greenbrier Housing Authority - $59,192

* Housing Authority of Mingo County - $31,820

* Huntington West Virginia Housing Authority $36,233

HUD's Housing Choice Voucher - Family Self-Sufficiency Program encourages communities to work with welfare agencies, schools, businesses, and other local partners to develop a comprehensive program that gives participating family members the skills and experience to enable them to obtain employment that pays a living wage.

"HUD continues to assist people in southern West Virginia and across the nation with leading more productive lives," said Rahall. "I am thankful that HUD recognized the importance of these local initiatives and I am sure the housing authorities will use the money to benefit our area."
