DeLauro (CT-3), co-chair of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, issued the following statement on the nomination of chairs for the House Committees on Agriculture, Armed Services, Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, Homeland Security, Judiciary, Natural Resources, Science and Technology, Small Business, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Veterans Affairs. The Caucus approved the nominations.

“The Steering and Policy Committee met today to nominate the remaining committee chairs. One exception is the vacancy in the Oversight and Government Reform Committee created by Congressman Henry Waxman’s election as chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee. In order to ensure Members have the time to deliberate, this committee chair nomination will be held at a later date.

“The Committee nominated for the 111th Congress: Congressman Collin Peterson (MN-5) as the chair of the Agriculture Committee, Congressman Ike Skelton (MO-4) to serve as chair of the Committee on Armed Services, Congressman George Miller (CA-7) as the chair of the Education and Labor Committee, Congressman Howard Berman (CA-28) as the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Bennie Thompson (MS-2) to chair the Committee on Homeland Security, Congressman John Conyers (MI-14) to serve as chair of the Committee on Judiciary, Congressman Nick Rahall (WV-3) as the chair of the Natural Resources Committee, Congressman Bart Gordon (TN-6) to chair the Committee on Science and Technology, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez (NY-12) as chair of the Small Business Committee, Congressman James Oberstar (MN-8) to chair the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and Congressman Bob Filner (CA-51) as chair of the Committee on Veterans Affairs.”
