Service Academy Nominations

Congressman Wolf Announces Service Academy Appointments (July 11, 2008)

I feel that one of the highest privileges a young person can experience is attending one of the United States service academies.

To apply for a nomination to an academy, a student should send a letter to my Herndon office expressing his or her desire to attend an academy. Applications should be sent to the attention of Ann Potocnak on my staff. Applications can be made beginning in the early spring of a student's junior year. The deadline for completed applications is November 1 of the student's senior year. Candidates must be at least 17 years old and not have passed their 23rd birthday on July 1 of the year of admission.

Receipt of the letter will initiate the opening of a file, and an application will be sent to the candidate along with a letter outlining other required material: a transcript of grades, SAT scores or ACT scores, and three letters of recommendation. My SAT reporting code is 5945 and my ACT reporting code is 7733; however, if your SAT scores or ACT scores are included on your transcript, that is sufficient.

My 10th District Service Academy Advisory Board, composed of graduates from the various service academies, retired and active military men and women, reviews applications, interviews prospective candidates and recommends nominees. The Board's goal is to submit to the academies the best candidates that the 10th District has to offer.
