Nick J. Rahall (D-WV) announced today that that a  $3,270,000 Rural Development funding package from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Program has been awarded to the City of Summersville to construct waterline extensions.

“Here in southern West Virginia, we understand that a healthy infrastructure can improve the overall health of a community,” said Rahall. “I am pleased to announce another success in our efforts to improve the quality of life for residents in the City of Summersville with improvements to their aging water system.”

The USDA funding package, consisting of $2,411,706 in loans and $858,294 in grants, will be used to construct waterline extensions to serve residents currently using well supplies that produce water with high concentrations of iron. The funds will allow Summersville to construct a 100,000 gallon water storage tank and extend water service to approximately 281 new customers in the surrounding community.

“Today’s announcement is another example of the much needed and much appreciated assistance the USDA Rural Development Program provides to the communities of southern West Virginia,” said Rahall. “Infrastructure improvements in our communities ensure added health benefits, create jobs and encourage overall economic growth and development in our rural communities.
