Rahall Announces $1.375M Funding Package for Armstrong Water Project

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV) announced today that the Armstrong Public Service District has been awarded a $1,375,000 Rural Development funding package, from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Program to renovate and upgrade the public water services of Armstrong and Deep Water in Fayette County

"I am pleased to announce another success in our efforts to improve southern West Virginia's water infrastructure, one that will greatly benefit hundreds of Fayette County residents," said Rahall.  "With this funding, officials will be able to combine their resources and build upon the great strides they have already made in improving the water services provided to residents of Armstrong and Deep Water."

The USDA funding package, consisting of a $765,000 loan and a $610,000 grant, will allow Fayette County officials to combine the water systems of Armstrong and neighboring Deep Water Public Service Districts.  It will also allow APSD to renovate their aging water treatment plant, extend waterlines, and replace an existing water storage tank.  Once completed, the upgrade is expected to extend or improve water service to 958 Fayette County households.

"Infrastructure improvements, such as these, have been proven to create jobs, bring added health benefits, and encourage overall economic growth and development in our communities," said Rahall.  "Across southern West Virginia, we greatly appreciate the help of programs like the USDA Rural Development Fund, which provide much needed assistance to our communities and their efforts to combat the complex set of economic challenges specific to our area."
