Rahall Announces $226,100 for the Beckley Fire Department

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV) announced today that a $226,100 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) grant has been awarded to the Beckley Fire Department in Raleigh County to refurbish their ladder truck.

“Southern West Virginia’s firefighters are on the frontlines protecting our communities every day," said Rahall.  “This funding will help ensure that authorities have the critical support equipment they need to protect the homes and families of Beckley and Raleigh County.”

This funding will allow the Beckley Fire Department to refurbish their 1990 LTI ladder truck with up-to-date safety equipment.

“We are grateful for Congressman Rahall’s continuing support of the Beckley Fire Department and the citizens of Beckley and Raleigh County,” said Captain Billie Trump of the Beckley Fire Department.

This funding comes from the DHS’ Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program, which has been providing funding to fire departments and other first responders since 2004. Grants through the AFG program are awarded to first-responder organizations for the purchase of response equipment, personal protective equipment, and vehicles.
