Rahall Announces $36K for Boone County Health Clinic

U.S. Rep. Nick J. Rahall (D-WV) announced today that FamilyCare HealthCenter has been awarded a $36,000 Community Facility Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Program to ensure the continuation of services at their Boone County facility located in Madison, WV.

“These days, with gas prices soaring higher and higher, driving clear across the Mountain State just to see a doctor is a luxury not every family can afford,” said Rahall. “With these funds, FamilyCare will be able to continue to provide residents of Boone County with quality healthcare that’s close to home.”

FamilyCare HealthCenter is a Community Health Center dedicated to providing high quality, cost effective healthcare to families, regardless of their ability to pay, with a special focus on women's health. FamilyCare provides family medicine, pediatric, and OB/GYN services at six facilities located in underserved regions of Kanawha, Putnam, and Boone Counties.

The Rural Development funding will be used to pay costs associated with the transfer of ownership of the facility from Madison Health Care, Inc. to FamilyCare. It will also help FamilyCare make building repairs and pave the parking lot at the Madison facility, to help better provide services to the residents of Boone County.

“Providing quality, easily affordable medical care is essential to the health and development of our rural communities and is one of the most important issues facing our Nation today,” said Rahall. “Across southern West Virginia, we greatly appreciate the USDA Rural Development Program, which provides much needed assistance to our communities, and its efforts to combat the complex set of economic challenges specific to our area.”
