We The People Bookshelf Awarded to Greenbrier, Pocahontas Libraries
04/08/08U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV) announced today that libraries in Greenbrier and Pocahontas Counties will be receiving an award of 17 classic books on the theme of “Created Equal,” made possible through the National Endowment for the Humanities’ We the People Bookshelf program.
The We the People Bookshelf program is designed to encourage younger readers (K-12) to explore significant American themes through classic works of literature. Libraries will receive a set of seventeen hardcover books related to this year’s “Created Equal” theme, inspired by the 2009 bicentennial year of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. As part of their award, libraries agree to hold public programming for students, such as reading competitions, essay contests, guest speakers, and other community-enriching activities.
