Wayne County Community Services Organization, Inc.to receive $72,910 for its Job Access program

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV) announced today that Wayne County Community Services Organization, Inc. (WCCSO) will receive $72,910 to provide working residents or those trying to enter the workforce with rides to employment, job training, education, day care and other services in Wayne County, as well as areas in Cabell and Mingo County that border Wayne County.

"Sometimes, an investment as simple as a ride can make a difference between a pay check and an unemployment check," Rahall said. "Services, such as the one in Wayne County, are helping to ease at least one of the employment difficulties some our rural residents face."

The funds, provided by a grant through the Federal Transit Authority of the U.S. Department of Transportation, will assist WCCSO's Job Access program for rural residents. In addition to providing rides to residents, the program coordinates existing resources in providing transportation services to those unemployed and underemployed individuals, giving individuals in these areas more options and access to more resources in the job market.

Rahall added, "Removing some of the hurdles our residents are facing in today's job market is a great way to help get unemployed West Virginians started in a new job. Funding the WCCSO in Wayne County can only help."

Many of the drugs the bill will focus on for importation were produced in the United States and exported to other countries. These drugs are sold for staggering prices by the pharmaceutical companies in the U.S., but these same companies are setting much lower prices for the same drugs in other countries. Importing prescription drugs at this lower price will create a more competitive market. Drug importation has been endorsed by consumer groups, pharmacies, and advocacy organizations; such as the AARP (American Association of Retired Peoples), Alliance of Retired Americans, American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
