Rahall Announces Nearly $3 Million in HUD Grants to Southern West Virginia

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV) announced today that Housing Authorities in Southern West Virginia have been awarded $2,866,692 in funding from the Capital Fund of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

"This money will help improve housing in southern West Virginia," Rahall said. "HUD continues to help people in southern West Virginia and across the Nation with the finding and obtaining housing. I am thankful that HUD recognized the importance of these housing projects and I am sure the Housing Authorities will use the money to benefit our area."

The following Housing Authorities have been approved for funding:

* Housing Authority of the City of Beckley $375,550
* Housing Authority of the City of Bluefield $259,490
* Housing Authority of the City of Huntington $1,330,984
* Housing Authority of the City of Mount Hope $249,258
* Housing Authority of the City of Williamson $355,430
* Housing Authority of Boone County $115,483
* Housing Authority of Mingo County $65,277
* Housing Authority of Raleigh County $115,220

The Capital Fund grant money may be used for a variety of activities including modernization, development, financing and management improvements.

Rahall added, "With these additional funds, our local organizations will be able to lend a helping hand and create additional housing options for those in need."
