Cabell County and the City of Huntington to Receive Funding for Law Enforcement

U.S. Rep. Nick J. Rahall (D-WV) announced today that Cabell County and the City of Huntington have been awarded a grant of $70,663. The County will use its share of the grant to purchase tactical surveillance equipment, computers, investigative materials, and a digital camcorder for their detective unit. The City will use their share of the funds to purchase patrol vehicles.

"I am glad to hear that the Department of Justice realizes the need to help fund our law enforcement teams in West Virginia," said Rahall. "As we know all too well, the streets are not always safe and this funding will help the City of Huntington and all of Cabell County help make our area safer."

The grant was from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG). According to the Department of Justice, JAG allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions. These grants can be used for many projects, such as drug treatment programs, corrections and community corrections programs, drug use prevention and education programs, and law enforcement programs.
