Rahall Announces $2.526M Funding Package for the Lavalette PSD Water Project

U.S. Rep. Nick J. Rahall (D-WV) announced today a funding package in the amount of $1 million in grant money and $1.526 in loans from the United States Department of Agriculture for the Lavalette Public Service District water project.

The funding will allow the Public Service District to construct approximately 16 miles of waterline, a $108,000-gallon water storage tank, one booster pump station, and the necessary appurtenances to provide potable water to approximately 206 new customers.

"Wayne County has made great strides in improving its infrastructure in an effort to promote economic development and job creation," Rahall said. "This funding will allow them to continue in their efforts and I thank the USDA for recognizing the importance of our request."

In August, Congressman Rahall contacted the USDA on behalf of the LPSD, conveying his fullest support for the community's application.

Wayne County Commissioner Jim Booten thanked the Congressman for his work on the project and stressed the importance of the funds to the LPSD.

"We have been working for some time to get this project going and this funding will improve both the quantity and quality of water in the area," Booten said. "It's a big boost to the LPSD and we thank Congressman Rahall for his efforts."

The extension will start at the intersection of State Route 37 and Hurricane Creek Road near the town of Fort Gay and will serve residents along County Route 37 near the community of Echo. The project will also serve residents along County Routes 37/4, 37/8, 52/93 and 52/94.
