U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall, D-WV, announced today that the Mingo County Airport has been awarded $450,000 from the Department of Transportation to assist in plans for the construction of a new airport.

"This sizeable grant is a significant first step in Mingo County’s efforts to build a new airport," Rahall said. "I look forward with great excitement to following the development of this new facility, which will open up many new doors for Mingo and surrounding counties."

The funding will be used to develop the engineering documents for construction.



"In the modern business world, few things are a greater asset to any community wishing to compete successfully than the availability of air service," Rahall said. "This funding, we will help to raise the economic boats for the entire area this airport will serve."

Congressman Rahall is a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, which oversees the U.S. Department of Transportation.
