NEWS: WASHINGTON SHOULD LISTEN TO NEW YORK'S MESSAGE

Washington, DC - Representative Anthony Weiner (D - Brooklyn and Queens) released the following statement on the New York State Delegation's visit to Washington seeking additional federal support with looming budget deficits:

“Leaders of New York State have an important message, and I hope we think deeply about all the reforms that need to be made. As the incoming White House Chief of Staff has said, ‘Never allow a crisis to go to waste.’

“This would be the right time to more fairly apportion resources and responsibilities. New York State sends a lot more to Washington than we get back, and New York State has too much decision-making control over New York City. From our subways to our schools, New York City deserves more control of its own destiny. City, State, and federal governments need to be responsible - making cuts where necessary, and also using this moment to do the right long-term planning. Washington should send its fair share back to New York, and I hope my colleagues here in Congress will listen to that message.”
