Welcome to the Kid’s Page section of my Web site. I have included Internet links that will help you learn about the state of North Carolina and about our federal government. There are also some fun links to Web sites about American history, science, nutrition and the world abroad. I hope you enjoy exploring them!
Let me tell you a little bit about myself:
- I am a member of the United States House of Representatives from North Carolina.
- There are 435 voting members of the U.S. House and 13 of them are from North Carolina.
- I represent the 12th Congressional District, which is in the Piedmont region of the state, is North Carolina's most urban congressional district and is an area in which almost 620,000 people live.
- Nickname: Mel
- Birthday: August 26, 1945
- Favorite Color: Blue
- Favorite Food: Ice Cream
- Children: Brian (an actor) and Jason (an educator)
- Something you probably don’t know about me: I drive a “hybrid” car. That means that my car runs on a combination of electricity and gas. This is much better for our environment.
