The greatest honor that any individual can be given in a democracy is the privilege of representing his or her fellow citizens in the decision-making process that shapes the future for America and its families. The job of a Member of Congress is three-fold: To represent his or her constituents in the Congress in making decisions that affect the state, the nation, and the district; to assist those constituents in their dealings with the federal government; and to help inform their constituents on the choices facing their government. As your Representative I am privileged to be of service to you in helping you navigate the maze of the federal government and to represent you in the people's business in the House of Representatives. I am pleased to provide you with the following resource links to guide you through my website on how you can learn more about my work on your behalf as your Representative. If you are wondering whether you are a resident of the 7th Congressional District that I represent, this section will provide you with a snapshot of the district as well as links to the counties contained in the district and the communities within each of those counties. My Biography provides information on my personal history and how my experiences growing up have shaped my convictions and priorities in the work I do in Congress today. It also provides you with information on my legislative experience and legislative priorities. My primary legislative and policy responsibilities arise from my role as Chairman of the Appropriations Committee. Government budgets are not just accounting documents that reveal our values as a nation; over time they have a tremendous influence on the opportunities that are provided for America's working families. It is my privilege to be Chairman of the Committee that makes many of those key decisions. This section will describe my role as Chairman of the Appropriations Committee as well as what the Appropriations Committee does. In this section, you will find my views on a variety of issue concerns which I have found to be of interest at home. This section offers you an opportunity to see my legislative activity, including the bills I have sponsored and cosponsored and how I voted during the current session of Congress.
