Washington, Oct 27 -

Iowa Congressman Tom Latham has announced further disaster relief funds from the federal government to help Iowans. Victims of the June 2008 flood will be able to use the money to restore damaged homes, while business owners will be able to use some of the funds to help repair damage to businesses, while local governments will be able to restore damaged infrastructure. The emergency funding is being provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through HUD's Community Development Block Grant.

"Emergency funds for our families and neighbors cannot come too soon," said Iowa Congressman Tom Latham. "These funds are needed immediately, and I'm happy that HUD has been able to provide help to Iowans in need."

The funds are part of a second installation of emergency funding for Iowa and other Mid-western states. Iowa will receive $71,690,815 in this allocation, bringing the total emergency HUD-to-Iowa funds to $156.7 million. Indiana has received $67 million in total funds while Wisconsin has received a total of $24 million. Out of the 15 states receiving Community Development Block Grants, Iowa's emergency funding has received the lion's share.
