Congressional Art Competition

Plans are underway for this year’s Congressional Art Competition, and high school at students in the First Congressional District are invited to participate. The two-week exhibit will be on view at Gallery 4222 in Port Jefferson. This year marks the twenty-seventh anniversary of this nationwide competition to showcase the work of outstanding high school art students and to acknowledge our nation’s gifted young artists.

Congressional districts across the country will be holding competitions. Locally, our exhibit will once again be curated by the East End Arts Council. EEAC will also select the judges. The winner of our local competition will have his or her art work hung in a year-long exhibit on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. and will be invited to attend an event in D.C. on June 25, 2008 along with other winners from around the country. Three round-trip tickets to D.C. will be provided by a sponsor for the event. An art college scholarship will also be offered to the winner.

Our exhibit will be on view at Gallery 4222 from April 18 to May 4. The Awards Presentation will be Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. Drop-off dates for submitting art work are Monday and Tuesday, April 14 & 15.

Art teachers with students who would like to participate in this exciting opportunity should contact Jane Finalborgo in my Southampton Office at 631-259-8450. Students must be residents of the First Congressional District (Brookhaven, the five East End Towns and parts of Smithtown).
