Congressional Page Program

To be eligible to serve as a page for the school year, applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time of their appointment, be in their junior year of high school, and have a cumulative grade point average of “B” or better in all major courses to date. The definition of a “B” is a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or an 85 out of a 100 point scale. To be eligible for the summer program applicants must be 16 years of age, have a “B” average, and be willing to serve as a Page for one month before or after their junior year of high school.

Application
Applicants should submit their completed applications to Congressman John Sullivan’s office for review. The Speaker’s Office will not accept an application directly from a student. A member of Congress may forward an application. To receive an application, write to Congressman John Sullivan, 114 Cannon House Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20515. Enclose a letter expressing interests in the Page program.

Requirements
An official transcript must be sent along with the application. This is to verify the cumulative grade point average of “B” or better. Elective courses are not relevant when calculating averages. The following courses will be included in GPA tally: English, science, mathematics, social studies, and foreign language.

In addition to the application and the transcript, the following items are required:

  • Parental Consent
  • Social Security number
  • 50-100 word essay on why you would like to become a Republican Page
  • Resume of extra-curricular activities
  • Three letters of recommendation

Page School
During the school year Page program, the Pages attend five 40 minute classes at the Page school, which is located on the fourth floor of the Library of Congress Jefferson Building. This school is for school year Pages only, summer Pages do not attend.

Courses

  • American, British, or World Literature, or Humanities
  • Algebra II / Trigonometry; Trigonometry/Pre Calculus or Pre Calculus
  • Physics or Chemistry
  • Intermediate or Advanced French or Spanish

Workdays
The workday begins immediately after their last class at the Page school ends. The workday for the Page usually ends at 5:00 p.m. or until the House adjourns for the day, which ever is later. Pages act primarily as messengers on Capitol Hill. They deliver material between the buildings. During the course of the day, the Pages accumulate points for “runs”. Those with the highest number of points are excused early when the House goes into late sessions.

The summer workdays begin at 9 a.m.
