Iron County is located in northwest Wisconsin and was created in 1893 from Ashland and Oneida Counties.  It was named after the iron deposits found in the area.  The county seat is Hurley.

 

A portion of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Reservation is in the southeast part of Iron County.

 

Population:    6,727 (2003 estimate)

Land Area:     757 square miles
