Douglas County is located in northwest Wisconsin and was created in 1854 from a larger county known as LaPointe County at the time.  Douglas County was named after Stephen A. Douglas, a U.S. Senator for Illinois. 

 

The county seat is Superior.

 

Population:    44,093 (2003 estimate)

Land Area:     1,309 square miles
